Hi readers,my name is Charles. I’m a high school student. I want to talk to you about the Dog Meat Festival, which
is a common festival in some Asian countries such as South Korea and Vietnam. At this festival, people gather
together to eat dog meat.
There is a dog meat market in South Korea. Dog meat has become a means for some Korean farmers to make a living. These things may seem very funny or unreasonable to us, but before questioning this matter, we might as well first understand how the dog meat economy originated.
It is believed in certain cultures that dog meat has the effect of dispelling cold and relieving heat, so in the winter of
Korea and the summer of Vietnam, eating dog meat has become a custom, just like the French spread butter on
bread, which has become the living habit of these ethnic groups. And it has a history of hundreds of years.
Let's imagine that you have a tradition that you have maintained for a long time, such as washing up in the morning.
Now you are not allowed to wash up. Will you get used to it? I think the answer is no. The same is true for those
who eat dog meat.
First of all, I am against eating dog meat, because I think it is not moral. Of course, many people will say that you
should just become a vegetarian, because chickens, cows, sheep and other animals are also alive, so is it moral to
eat them?
My explanation for these questions and doubts is that from the moral and ethical level of human beings, dogs are more of a pet companion because they have a high IQ and can empathize with humans. Chickens, cattle, sheep and other animals are more defined as a food source by our ancestors. This is a result of cultural sedimentation. Since I am against eating dog meat, how can we stop Koreans, Vietnamese and other people from eating dog meat?I think we can't rush it, we have to take it slowly, and we have to start with our generation, that is, the children born after 2000. The thinking of the older generation can't be adjusted. You can't change their ideas, so change yourself. Since you know it is immoral, then don't do it, and warn the people around you not to do it.The South Korean and Vietnamese governments can also regulate the dog meat market, such as issuing subsidies to other industries to encourage merchants in the dog meat market to engage in other industries, and they can also increase some taxes on dog meat transactions, thereby reducing dog meat transactions and circulation, because there is no killing without buying and selling.
In this blog, I will be exploring this issue in depth, giving my opinion and backing it up with facts from legitimate sources.
